A Victorian white metal teapot of oval form, supported on four ball feet. The vessel features a hinged lid with a carved finial, likely bone?, and a spout decorated with a foliate thumbpiece. The angular handle is fitted with two white insulating rings. The body is extensively decorated with engraved shamrock borders surrounding two large panels of political text. The first panel is inscribed ‘MARCH 17TH 1886. THE EDITORS OF ENGLAND IS THE REAL CAUSE OF ALL THE EVICTIONS MISERY OF THE POOR & RICH OF THE 3 KINGDOMS THEY WANT TO SELL THEIR DEMORALIZING PRINTS SETTING MAN AGAINST MAN.’ The second panel reads ‘BUCKSHOT FOSTER SCULLY SADLER & CO THEY CAUSED MISERY & WOE WHO HANDED THEM INTO PARLIAMENT TO CUT THROATS THE PARISHIONERS DO KNOW SHEFFIELD FOR EVER.’ The inscriptions refer to William Edward ‘Buckshot’ Forster and the Irish Land War. No assay hallmarks are visible; the metal shows surface wear consistent with base metal construction.
