A 20th-century novelty door knocker of substantial cast brass construction, depicting a stylized portrait bust of King Henry VIII. The piece is rendered in high relief with a dark bronzed patination applied to the recessed areas of the face and Tudor-style ruff to accentuate the detail. The reverse of the knocker features a raw sand-cast texture. The front of the beard area is cast with the literal transcription HENRY VIII. The reverse of the mounting arm and strike plate is impressed with the marks B E L. REG and GT BRITAIN, indicating registration and manufacture in Great Britain. The item consists of two hinged parts, including the decorative head and an integral strike plate with two pre-drilled mounting holes at the base.
