A vintage bronzed cast brass door knocker featuring a relief portrait bust of William Shakespeare. The figure is depicted in period attire above a scroll-shaped plate bearing his name in a gothic script. The item is constructed in two parts, comprising a decorative striking plate and a hinged striker arm. The recessed areas of the casting have been darkened to accentuate the relief detail. The reverse of the striker arm features cast lettering reading GT BRITAIN and a copyright symbol followed by BEL. The mounting plate is pierced with three holes for attachment to a door surface.
