A pair of vintage lacquered wood vanity or desktop accessories featuring bird illustrations by the wildlife artist Basil Ede. The set comprises a rectangular tray and a matching lidded box, both finished in a pale sage green with a textured crackle-effect glaze and gilt metal effect borders. The tray is decorated with a central printed illustration of a common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) in a grassland landscape, bearing the printed signature BASIL EDE in the lower right corner. The rectangular box features a lidded top with an illustration of a ptarmigan? / grouse? in winter plumage, opening to reveal a natural wood interior with recessed finger pulls to the sides. The reverse of the tray is finished in a textured orange surface and is fitted with a cord for wall mounting.
