A set of five Russian wooden nesting dolls depicting Soviet political leaders in caricature style. The collection is hand-painted on turned wood with a clear lacquer finish, following a traditional matryoshka design. The largest doll features Mikhail Gorbachev? in a black suit and spectacles, complete with his characteristic birthmark. The subsequent nesting pieces depict Leonid Brezhnev? with prominent eyebrows and a yellow tie, Nikita Khrushchev? holding an ear of corn, Joseph Stalin? in a green military tunic, and a small terminal figure of Vladimir Lenin? in a dark suit and goatee. The painting employs a satirical aesthetic typical of the late 20th-century souvenir market. Each piece is horizontally bisected to allow for nesting, with the exception of the smallest solid figure. No maker marks or inscriptions are visible on the exterior surfaces.
