A pair of octagonal wall plaques featuring high-relief reproductions of the Aztec Sun Stone (Piedra del Sol). Each central medallion is constructed from a green-toned composite resin? finished with a dark wash to simulate patinated greenstone or jadeite. The plaques depict the central solar deity Tonatiuh surrounded by concentric bands of calendrical glyphs and celestial serpents. One medallion is mounted against a red fabric? ground within a stepped wooden frame, while the second is mounted directly to a wooden backing board within a matching octagonal frame. The outer borders of both pieces are decorated with repeating friezes of stylized Mesoamerican glyphs and figures. The reverse of each plaque features a wooden backing with a metal hanging loop and a small red circular adhesive label with illegible printed characters. A small rectangular paper label is also present on the reverse of one plaque, though the inscription is not legible.
