A British Second World War Defence Medal (1939-1945) struck in cupro-nickel. The obverse features the bareheaded effigy of King George VI facing left, with the circular inscription GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP. The reverse depicts two lions flanking a crown over a small oak tree, with the dates 1939 and 1945. The inscription to the right reads THE DEFENCE MEDAL. The medal is suspended from its original silk ribbon, featuring green edges with thin black stripes and a central orange stripe. The medal is accompanied by its original cardboard mailing box, which bears a Bedford postmark and a circular black stamp reading OFFICIAL PAID with a crown. The box is addressed to MR. J. W. Baker, 13, Foster Road, Kempston, Beds. and features the printed abbreviation O.H.M.S. to the left. The original translucent tissue paper lining is present.
