Lot 93: George VI Cupro-Nickel Second World War Defence Medal in Original Mailing Box

A British Second World War Defence Medal (1939-1945) struck in cupro-nickel. The obverse features the bareheaded effigy of King George VI facing left, surrounded by the circumscription GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX F : D : IND : IMP. The reverse displays the Royal Crown atop an oak sapling, flanked by two lions as supporters, with the dates 1939 and 1945 above the inscription THE DEFENCE MEDAL. The medal is suspended from a plain bar and swivelling suspender. Included is the original silk ribbon featuring a flame-orange centre, green outer stripes, and thin black vertical stripes. The award is housed in its original brown cardboard postal mailing box. The lid is stamped with an OFFICIAL PAID crown device and is addressed to Mr. R. Emmett, Lampro Farm, Mullion, HELSTON, Cornwall. The side of the lid is printed O.H.M.S.
