A primitive vernacular milking stool? constructed from solid hardwood, likely elm. The circular seat is hand-hewn with a thick profile, displaying prominent grain patterns and natural knots. It is supported by three turned legs joined to the seat via through-tenons. The legs feature simple decorative bulbous turnings and are braced by a single horizontal stretcher assembly. The piece is finished with a dark, worn ebonised? stain which has been extensively rubbed away through use to reveal the natural timber beneath, particularly on the legs and stretcher. The seat surface shows deep drying cracks, gouges, and scattered white paint droplets. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible on the underside or legs.
