A maritime navigational instrument component, likely an azimuth or compass ring, constructed from cast and machined brass. The circular plate features a central aperture and two smaller offset circular openings, surrounded by several pre-drilled mounting holes. The face is engraved with a 360-degree scale in one-degree increments, numbered every ten degrees from 10 to 360. The cardinal points N and W are engraved at the 0/360 and 270-degree positions respectively. The central plate is stamped with the maker’s mark ALEX MABON & SONS followed by the location GLASGOW. The piece is fitted with two rectangular brass mounting flanges to the sides. The surface displays a natural aged patina with areas of oxidation and remnants of old polish.
