A Russian lacquer miniature box of rectangular form, likely constructed from papier-mache with a traditional black exterior and a contrasting red-lacquered interior. The hinged lid features a hand-painted scene in the Palekh style, depicting the folkloric character Snegurochka (the Snow Maiden) within a winter landscape alongside two hares and snow-dusted fir trees. The central composition is framed by a delicate gold-leaf scrollwork border. The lower right corner of the lid bears hand-painted Cyrillic inscriptions; the first word is Палех (Palekh), identifying the village of origin, and the second word is Снегурочка (Snegurochka), identifying the subject matter. A further artist signature is present in the lower right but is not clearly legible. The underside and sides are finished in a high-gloss black lacquer.
