A Soviet-era Russian lacquer trinket box of rectangular form, constructed from papier-mache with a traditional black exterior and red lacquered interior. The hinged lid is decorated with a hand-painted miniature scene in the Mstera? style, depicting a narrative from a Russian fairytale, likely The Tale of the Golden Cockerel. The central figure is a crowned Tsar standing before an architectural backdrop, with a cockerel perched atop a building to the left, all rendered with fine gold-line detailing. The scene is enclosed within a decorative gold dot border. The right edge of the lid bears a hand-painted Cyrillic inscription in gold script reading П, е, т, у, ш, о, к (Petyushok), followed by further characters that are not clearly legible as a specific village or artist name.
