A George V sterling silver child’s feeding spoon featuring an embossed bowl depicting the nursery rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle. The spoon is designed in the Art Nouveau style with a scroll-top handle. The bowl is decorated in high relief with scenes including the cow jumping over the moon, the cat with a fiddle, and the dish running away with the spoon. The bowl edge is embossed with the text HEY! DIDDLE, DIDDLE, THE CAT & THE FIDDLE. The back of the handle bears a full set of English hallmarks comprising the maker’s mark L & S in a rectangular cartouche, a lowercase q date letter, a lion passant sterling standard mark, and an anchor assay office mark for Birmingham. The spoon is housed in a fitted presentation case with a silk-lined interior lid printed Wm. Greenwood & Sons, 5, NEW STREET, HUDDERSFIELD, 92 & 93, BRIGGATE, LEEDS. The exterior is finished in a brown textured material with a gold-toned tooled border and a brass hook clasp.
