An Edwardian sterling silver and glass dressing table jar of bulbous form. The clear glass body is decorated with wheel-cut linear and starburst motifs. The circular lid features an engine-turned linear finish surrounding a central unengraved roundel. The lid fits onto a silver collar mounted to the glass rim. The collar bears a row of four Birmingham hallmarks, including the maker’s mark C & C in a rectangular cartouche, a lion passant, an anchor assay mark, and the lowercase gothic date letter t for 1918. The maker’s mark corresponds to the firm Colen Hewer Cheshire?.
