A trio of silver? British coins from the Victorian era, comprising a shilling, a sixpence, and a threepence piece. The largest coin is a shilling dated 1883, featuring the ‘Young Head’ portrait of Queen Victoria on the obverse with the inscription VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITANNIAR: REG: F: D: and a crowned wreath on the reverse. The sixpence, dated 1898, displays the ‘Old Head’ or ‘Veiled Head’ portrait with the legend VICTORIA·DEI·GRA·BRITT·REGINA·FID·DEF·IND·IMP· and a crowned wreath reverse. The smallest coin is a threepence featuring a ‘Young Head’ obverse and a crowned numeral 3 on the reverse; the date on this piece is obscured by heavy toning and wear. Each coin has been modified with a circular piercing through the upper edge, likely for use as jewellery charms or pendants. The coins exhibit varying degrees of surface wear and dark oxidised toning.
