A British commemorative membership lapel badge for the National Union of Railwaymen (N.U.R.), crafted in sterling silver with polychrome enamel. The badge is of shielded form, featuring a central silver panel depicting a hand operating a railway signal lever. This is bordered by blue and orange enamel sections bearing the inscriptions 30 MEMBERSHIP YEARS and NATIONAL UNION OF RAILWAYMEN. The reverse is fitted with a horseshoe-shaped clip and bears a full set of British hallmarks including the maker’s mark J T & Co in a shield, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter y for 1948. A hand-written yellow paper slip accompanying the item reads BIRMINGHAM 1948-9 SILVER NATIONAL UNION OF RAILWAYMEN. The badge is presented in a modern black plastic case with a foam insert.
