Two natural abalone shell specimens from the Haliotidae family, likely Haliotis rufescens? and Haliotis fulgens?. The specimens are presented in their natural, unmounted state, exhibiting highly iridescent nacreous interiors with a mother-of-pearl finish showing a spectrum of silver, pink, green, and blue hues. The characteristic respiratory pores are visible along the edge of each shell. The larger shell features a predominantly pink and silver iridescent interior with a rougher, calcified centre, while the exterior shows a reddish-brown coloration with significant marine encrustation. The smaller shell displays a more vibrant green and blue iridescent interior, with an exterior heavily encrusted with white coralline algae, worm tube scarring, and pitting. A yellow adhesive label is present on the interior of the larger shell, reading 2688.
