A mahogany tilt-top breakfast table of substantial proportions, dating from the mid-19th century. The circular top is constructed from solid mahogany with a finely figured grain and a moulded edge. The top is mounted upon a pivot and block assembly, allowing it to be tilted vertically for storage. This upper section is supported by a thick, cylindrical mahogany pedestal column with turned ring detailing to the capital and base. The column terminates in a tri-form platform base, which is raised on three scroll-carved cabriole legs. Each leg features elaborate acanthus leaf motifs carved in relief at the knee and terminates in rounded, scroll feet. The underside of the table reveals the functional latch mechanism and structural timber bracing.
