Two sterling silver brooches of varying form. The first is a bar brooch featuring a central square bezel-set panel with a milled edge, containing an iridescent blue butterfly wing, likely of the Morpho genus, under a clear cabochon. The reverse of the bar is stamped STERLING ENGLAND. The second is a horseshoe brooch featuring six raised rectangular blocks representing nail heads. The reverse of the horseshoe bears a series of hallmarks including a maker mark A & W, likely for Adie & Wedlock?, a lion passant, an uncrowned leopard’s head for the Birmingham assay office, and a lowercase Gothic date letter m corresponding to the year 1911. Both pieces utilise traditional C-clasp pin mechanisms. The horseshoe brooch has two small apertures at the terminals, likely for a now-absent safety chain.
