A white lacquered wood storage chest of rectangular form, featuring hand-painted Chinoiserie style botanical and avian motifs. The hinged lid and front panel are decorated with a scene of pink lotus blossoms and large lily pads in shades of green and grey, with a small bird perched upon a thorny branch. The side panels feature a single green lotus leaf to the left and a monochrome brown study of grasses to the right. The chest is fitted with a central circular gilt metal effect latch of ruyi form and an internal metal lid stay. The whole is supported by a shaped plinth base with a decorative apron embellished with gilt metal effect scrollwork and a central floral motif. The interior is finished in a uniform white paint. No marks or signatures are visible.
