A collection of Spode earthenware plates from the Blue Room series, featuring various transfer-printed designs in underglaze blue. The assortment of 24 pieces includes plates decorated with the ‘Portland Vase’ pattern, characterised by a central circular motif of the vessel within a tessellated geometric border. Also included are plates featuring the ‘Castle’ pattern, depicting a pastoral landscape with a domed building framed by a floral border of roses and foliage. The group further contains 2002 commemorative calendar plates from the ‘English Rural Scene’ series, each showing a thatched cottage encircled by zodiac symbols and a monthly calendar border. The reverse of the plates features blue underglaze printed marks within a foliate border, including a circular portrait of Josiah Spode and text reading THE SPODE BLUE ROOM CALENDAR PLATE ‘ENGLISH RURAL SCENE’ The 7th in the series, adapted from an original hand engraving.
