This oil on canvas painting is a 19th-century copy of the celebrated 1823 portrait of Lord Seaham, Charles William Vane-Tempest-Stewart, by the prominent British Regency artist Sir Thomas Lawrence. The work depicts the young boy seated in a pastoral landscape, dressed in a vibrant orange-red jacket with an oversized white ruffled collar and pale trousers, with his hat placed on the grass beside him. The painting is presented in a substantial and ornate gilded frame featuring deeply moulded scrolling acanthus leaf and floral patterns. The reverse of the work includes a handwritten identification label stating LORD SEAHAM (LAWRENCE). There is an oval ink stamp to the centre of the canvas reverse, though the text within is not clearly legible. The canvas is secured to a wooden stretcher with corner keys.
