A complete framed set of 50 cigarette trade cards issued by John Player and Sons. The series is titled Aviary and Cage Birds and was originally issued circa 1933. The cards depict various species of birds including canaries, parrots, budgerigars, and finches. Each card is headed with the text Player’s Cigarettes in serif typeface. Identified bird species within the collection include the Bullfinch-Canary Mule, Goldfinch-Canary Mule, London Fancy Canary, Lancashire Canary, African Grey Parrot, Indian Ring-necked Parrakeet, Mauve Greying Budgerigar, Yellow Budgerigar, Blue Budgerigar, Black-headed Gouldian Finch, Red-headed Gouldian Finch, Rose-crested Cockatoo, Virginia Cardinal, Zebra Finch, and Yellow-Rumped Finch. The cards are arranged in five vertical columns of ten within a dark wood frame featuring a gold-tone inner fillet. The set is mounted and glazed.
