A ceramic character bust base, manufactured by C.G. Schierholz and Sohn, Plaue. This item is the lower portion of a lidded tobacco jar or humidor, modelled as a man with a wide grin and exaggerated facial features. The bust is hand-painted, featuring heavy black eyebrows and hair, a high-gloss black cap, and a green collar with a gilded rim. The facial surface has a satin finish, while the hat and collar are finished with a high-gloss glaze. The interior is hollow, and the base features a central circular aperture. The underside is impressed with the numbers 6723 and the C.G. Schierholz and Sohn maker mark, consisting of a stylized shield containing the letter S.
