A mid-19th-century earthenware commemorative jug, likely ironstone, featuring black transfer-printed vignettes relating to the Crimean War. The jug is of a shaped form with a wide, pinched spout and a scalloped rim, featuring an ornate foliate-moulded handle with a thumb rest. One side is decorated with a scene of a cavalry officer in action, titled SIR GEORGE BROWN. and ALMA. referring to the 1854 battle. The opposite side depicts a naval scene with ships of the line and a coastal city, titled SEBASTOPOL. The spout and handle areas are decorated with large floral sprays and scrolling borders. There are no manufacturer marks present on the base.
