A Royal Doulton glazed earthenware wall mask of hollowed-back construction. The piece depicts a smiling man with a ruddy complexion, brown curly hair, and red lips. The subject is portrayed wearing a textured straw boater-style hat finished with a light blue ribbon band and a green-glazed cravat or coat detailed with a single button. The reverse of the mask bears a green printed circular backstamp surmounted by a crown, containing the words ROYAL and DOULTON arranged around a central lion rampant standing on a second crown, with the words MADE IN ENGLAND printed below. A handwritten mark in dark glaze reading D 593 followed by a fourth illegible digit is also present on the reverse. The glaze exhibits fine crazing, particularly evident to the green-glazed sections and the interior.
