The bisque? / earthenware? vessel is fashioned with a jovial male face featuring a ruddy complexion, prominent downturned moustache, and deeply moulded facial lines. He is depicted wearing a white shirt with a high standing collar. The separate lid is formed as a grey top hat with a black band, finished in a metallic-effect graphite? lustre. The interior of the jar is hollowed for use as a humidor.
