A cold-painted terracotta? figural tobacco jar and cover fashioned in the form of a grinning man’s head. The two-part ceramic vessel features a ruddy-complexioned face with exaggerated features, including high cheekbones and a wide smile. The figure is depicted wearing a black top hat, the crown of which serves as the removable lid. The container is constructed from a buff-coloured earthenware body with a hand-painted finish and a hollowed interior suitable for humidor use. A small white rectangular paper label is adhered to the flat top of the hat lid, printed with the number 1009.
