A glazed ceramic tobacco jar? / humidor? of character form, modelled as a jockey’s head. The vessel is constructed with a removable lid in the shape of a racing cap, featuring hand-painted alternating red and yellow vertical stripes. The face is naturalistically rendered with a ruddy complexion, a prominent nose, and black detailing to the hair and eyebrows. The interior is finished with a white glaze, while the underside of the lid remains unglazed, revealing a buff-coloured ceramic body. The style is characteristic of late 19th or early 20th-century European Majolica? production. No marks or inscriptions are legible on the visible interior surfaces or the seating rim.
