A pair of tin-glazed earthenware? candlesticks of ornate Baroque? form. Each vessel features a flared square nozzle with a scalloped rim, positioned above a tapering four-sided shaft. The shafts are decorated with moulded acanthus leaf motifs at the base and sit upon four-legged bases with scroll feet. The hand-painted decoration is executed in the Rouen? palette, comprising scrolling acanthus leaves in yellow and green alongside stylized floral sprays in blue and orange-red, finished with blue and yellow linear borders. The underside of one scroll foot bears a handwritten mark in dark pigment reading / 882 above three diagonal strokes / / / and a small dot.
