This mid-20th-century earthenware novelty teapot was produced by Lingard, Webster and Co. Ltd at the Swan Works in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent. The teapot is modelled in the whimsical form of a shoe, representing the nursery rhyme character The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe. The lid is designed as a figural bust of an elderly woman in a bonnet and spectacles, while the body features moulded architectural details such as windows and a door. The entire piece is finished in a bright lime green glaze with hand-applied silver lustre highlights to the decorative elements including the windows, door, and bonnet trim. The base carries an impressed ENGLAND mark and a printed circular factory stamp for Websters and Lingard Tunstall, alongside the number 67.
