This vintage ceramic pot-pourri jar or incense burner is of a rounded, bulbous form, featuring two distinct zoomorphic handles modelled in relief. One handle represents a ram head with curved horns, while the other is an elephant head with a trunk. The vessel body is decorated with a relief-moulded figure of a gnome or dwarf wearing a green hooded outfit and boots. The piece is finished in a pale cream glaze with hand-painted details to the figure and handles, and a contrasting black line around the rim of the body. The domed lid is pierced with teardrop-shaped apertures and is topped with a textured knop finial. The interior is glazed white. No maker marks or factory stamps are visible on the exterior; the base is not pictured. The piece is an example of mid-20th-century decorative earthenware.
