A vintage wooden shipping crate for Gold Label Brand tea, containing five original sealed one pound packets of tea. The crate is constructed from lightweight wooden boards with black stencilled advertising. The lid features the text GOLD LABEL BRAND, CHOICEST, and HIGH GROWN TEA framed by a decorative dashed border. The side of the crate is stencilled with the tea grade BROKEN ORANGE PEKOE. The five internal packets are wrapped in orange-toned paper and are printed with the text 1 Lb. Nett, CHOICEST HIGH GROWN BROKEN ORANGE PEKOE PURE CEYLON TEA. The packets further state they were Specially Selected and Packed by W. LOVELL BARTH AND SONS, COLOMBO, CEYLON. The use of the name Ceylon and the imperial weight measurements suggest a mid-20th-century production date, likely between the 1940s and 1960s, prior to the country being renamed Sri Lanka in 1972.
