This is a pair of industrial marine access or inspection covers. Each unit is constructed from two thick, sand-cast metal plates, likely an aluminium alloy, which are clamped together by four perimeter steel threaded studs with matching wing nuts. The top plate of each cover features integrated cast-in lettering. An arc across the top reads SEAHORSE, while the centre is marked APPROVED BY M.O.T., indicating these units met the safety standards of the British Ministry of Transport. Each cover includes a central integrated handle and a circular gasket positioned between the two plates to ensure a tight seal. The plates exhibit a characteristic rough orange peel texture typical of mid-20th-century industrial maritime equipment.
