A needlework sampler hand-stitched in dark-toned thread on a coarse-weave linen ground. The composition is arranged in vertical columns separated by geometric borders. The work includes multiple alphabets in uppercase, lowercase, and cursive scripts, alongside a numerical sequence from 1 to 16 and a series of larger decorative uppercase letters from A to J. The central section features a stitched religious verse from Proverbs 30:8-9: Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me. Lest i be full and deny thee and say who is the LORD or lest i be poor and steal and take the name of my God in vain. The right-hand column contains five decorative crowns, each positioned above an individual initial: M, D, P, Q, and K. The sampler is signed and dated in the lower right corner Elizabeth Darwin. 1815. It is presented in a simple black frame.
