A pair of oil paintings on canvas depicting 17th-century historical genre scenes in the 19th-century Cavalier style. The first painting features a swordsman with long hair, dressed in a pale doublet and breeches, holding a rapier. The second painting depicts an armourer or metalworker wearing a red sash, working at a bench with a hammer and pieces of plate armour. The works are executed with fine brushwork, though details are currently obscured by accumulated surface dirt and yellowed varnish. Both paintings are housed in matching, substantial carved oak frames featuring a repeating circular pattern and gilt-finished inner slips. No signatures, dates, or maker marks are visible on the front or reverse of the works. The canvases are mounted on wooden strainers.
