A matched pair of late 19th-century side chairs constructed from solid oak in the Jacobean Revival style. Each chair features a tall backrest with a shaped crest rail elaborately carved with a pair of heraldic lions flanking a central oval cartouche. The central splat is pierced and carved with scrolling foliage, vine, and fruit motifs, positioned between barley-twist stiles capped with turned finials. The solid oak seats are detailed with a recessed panel containing a centrally carved stylised quatrefoil rosette. The chairs are supported on block and turned front legs joined by a matching barley-twist front stretcher, with square-section side and rear stretchers. The timber is finished in a dark, aged stain typical of the period. Construction utilises traditional mortise and tenon joinery.
