A pair of Victorian Rococo Revival side chairs constructed from carved mahogany. The openwork balloon-shaped backs feature intricate carvings of C-scrolls and foliage surrounding a central shield-shaped motif. The waisted, serpentine-fronted seats are upholstered in a dusty rose-coloured velvet fabric, finished with a coordinating decorative gimp trim. Each chair is supported by carved cabriole front legs with scrolled knees and feet, and square-sectioned splayed rear legs. The frames exhibit characteristic mid-to-late 19th-century styling with a rich patina to the wood finish.
