A Japanese oval lidded box finished in black lacquer. The lid is decorated with a landscape scene depicting mountains, blossoming trees, and a pavilion. The design is executed using maki-e gold-tone powder highlights and iridescent green and white shell inlay. Additional details are rendered in red and gold-tone pigments. The box is formed from lacquer over a wooden or composite substrate. No maker marks, signatures, or inscriptions are visible on the exterior.
