Another Great Auction
A framed botanical needlework sampler featuring a calendar of floral motifs titled Flowers of the Months. The work is composed of twelve individual rectangular panels arranged in a four-by-three grid, each illustrating a different botanical study representing a month of the year. The floral designs include snowdrops, daffodils, poppies, autumn leaves, and holly. Each panel is accompanied by the corresponding month name stitched vertically in uppercase letters from January through to December.
The embroidery is executed in multi-coloured threads using a counted cross-stitch technique on a cream-coloured even-weave ground, likely Aida cloth. The design is characteristic of commercial needlework kits from the late 20th century, specifically resembling the Something Special Flowers of the Month kit number 50190.
The piece is professionally housed behind glass in a dark-stained wooden frame. It is presented with a double-layered mount comprising a primary cream-coloured mat and a slender gold-toned inner border.
