Another Great Auction
A pair of ceramic guardian lions (Shi), commonly referred to as Foo Dogs, finished in a monochrome turquoise glaze. The figures are modelled as a traditional male and female pair, each in a seated posture atop a rectangular integral plinth. The male figure is depicted with its right paw resting on a pierced brocade ball, while the female figure is shown with a cub under its left paw. The figures feature detailed scrolling to the manes and fur, with prominent bulging eyes and open mouths. The glaze displays a fine, dense network of crazing throughout. The plinths are decorated with pierced geometric and scroll motifs. No maker’s or reign marks are visible.
