Another Great Auction
A large porcelain mantel clock with a matching separate stand, decorated in the Rococo Revival style. The ensemble features a turquoise blue ground with extensive gilded scrollwork and hand-painted polychrome floral sprays. The clock body is adorned with two applied porcelain figures of a man and a woman in 18th-century dress; the man sits atop the piece holding a basket of fruit, while the woman stands at the base. A centrally positioned cartouche beneath the dial depicts a hand-painted pastoral landscape vignette. The circular dial features Roman numeral hour markers and two winding apertures. The separate stand echoes the decoration of the clock with gilded scrolls and floral motifs against a white and turquoise ground. While no maker’s marks are clearly visible, the design and execution are in the style of late 19th-century models by Meissen or Jacob Petit.
