Another Great Auction
A hand-painted porcelain figurine by Ashmor of Worcester, England, titled Churchill’s Few. This commemorative piece was produced to mark the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain (1940-1990) and was issued exclusively for History in Porcelain. The figure depicts a Royal Air Force fighter pilot in historically accurate flight gear, including a sheepskin-lined brown leather Irvin flight jacket, a yellow ‘Mae West’ life vest marked FRONT, dark flight trousers, and boots. The pilot is portrayed holding a leather flying helmet and an oxygen mask. He stands on a naturalistic base decorated to resemble grass and rock. The underside of the base features comprehensive printed information, including the crests of RAF Fighter Command and Royal Air Force Station Biggin Hill, as well as Winston Churchill’s famous quote: Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. The piece is identified as Model No. 265 from a limited edition of 500.
