Another Great Auction
A hand-painted porcelain figurine from the History in Porcelain series produced for Ashmor of Worcester, England. The piece depicts Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, KG, GCB, DSO, in his signature wartime attire, standing upon a rocky outcrop representing the North African desert. He is modelled wearing a black beret with dual badges, a brown leather-sleeved jerkin over a khaki sweater and trousers, with binoculars around his neck and a detailed map of El Alamein in his hands. The underside of the base features an extensive printed commemorative inscription, including a facsimile signature of B. L. Montgomery and a quote from his address to the Eighth Army on 23rd October 1942: IT WILL SWING OUR WAY. The base is decorated with the crest of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and the Royal Tank Regiment insignia with the motto FEAR NAUGHT. Factory marks identify this as model number 265 from a limited edition of 375. Incised marks JM and PG are present on the unglazed interior rim.
