Another Great Auction
A hand-painted porcelain figurine of Sir Winston Churchill, produced by Ashmor, Worcester, England, as part of the History in Porcelain series. The figure depicts Churchill in his iconic wartime attire, wearing a black three-piece suit, a white shirt with a blue and white polka-dot bowtie, and a gold-coloured pocket watch chain. He is shown giving the V for Victory hand gesture with his right hand, while his left hand holds a black top hat and a silver-topped walking cane. The figure stands on a naturalistic base modelled to resemble stone paving, featuring black cast-iron style scrollwork. The underside of the base is transfer-printed in black with the subject name, the date June 4th, 1940, and a long excerpt from Churchill’s famous We shall fight on the beaches speech. The base also bears the Ashmor Worcester England maker’s mark, a coat of arms, and is identified as Model No. 265 from a limited edition of 375 pieces.
