Another Great Auction
A pair of ovoid porcelain lidded jars manufactured by Porart Porcelanas, Portugal. Each vessel is decorated with transfer-printed Imari-style floral patterns featuring chrysanthemums, peonies, and scrolling foliage in shades of iron-red, green, and black with gilded highlights. The lids and shoulders of the jars are finished with gilded rims. Each domed lid is surmounted by a cast metal finial in the form of a bird of prey perched upon a decorative pedestal. The base of each jar bears a blue printed manufacturer mark consisting of a crowned triangular crest containing the script Porart over PORCELANAS, with PORTUGAL oriented vertically. A secondary circular mark containing the numeral 4 is also present.
