This patinated bronze? sculpture depicts a young boy, possibly a cherub or putto, intently reading an open book. The figure is naturalistically modelled in a Neoclassical style, shown partially draped in a light cloth with detailed features and textured hair. The bronze has a dark, rich brown patina and is mounted on a circular wooden sub-base, which sits atop a larger, tiered black-finished pedestal. The composition and subject matter are characteristic of late 19th-century French bronzes, specifically those produced by or in the style of the Moreau family of sculptors. No visible signatures, foundry marks, or edition numbers were identified on the piece.
Height: 34 cm.
