Another Great Auction
A late 19th or early 20th-century Austrian cold-painted metal table lighter, attributed to the workshop of Franz Bergman. The piece features an Orientalist scene with a seated snake charmer wearing a turban and traditional robes, playing a flute towards a coiled snake positioned on a detailed, patterned rug. Beside the figure stands a tall column modelled as a textured tree trunk, which terminates in a metal plunger mechanism designed for use as a table lighter. The group is mounted on a rectangular black marble base with characteristic white veining. The casting shows intricate detail on the figure’s costume, the texture of the tree, and the weave of the carpet. No signatures, foundry marks, or edition numbers were observed during inspection.
Length: 14 cm (base).
