Another Great Auction
This bronze alloy sculpture is after the celebrated model by Antoine Coysevox (French, 1640–1720) entitled ‘Nymph with a Shell’. The work depicts a reclining female figure in the classical tradition, leaning on her right arm with her head turned slightly. Her hair is styled in a chignon, and her lower body is partially draped in a flowing, naturalistic cloth. The figure is positioned upon a rocky base that transitions into an integrated, smooth circular plinth. The sculpture is hollow-cast in a copper alloy, finished with a dark green patina. The interior view shows the characteristic texture of the casting process, while the ground bottom rim displays the underlying yellow-toned metal. No signatures, foundry stamps, or edition numbers are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces.
