Another Great Auction
This sterling silver cigarette case is of curved rectangular form, designed for comfort when carried in a pocket. The exterior is decorated with an all-over engine-turned wave pattern, featuring a small rectangular cartouche to the front engraved with the script monogram JH. The interior is finished with a gold-wash gilding and retains its original internal clips. The item bears a full set of British hallmarks on both internal panels. These include the maker mark S.B & S. Ld for S. Blanckensee and Son Ltd, the lion passant indicating sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the lowercase gothic letter u for the year 1919.
